This is the most
comprehensive type of inspection,
and is strongly advised when
purchasing a new or used vessel.
Condition and overall operation of
the vessel should be examined. This
includes such items as structural
integrity, out of water inspection,
electrical systems, fuel system,
propulsion system, machinery,
navigation, miscellaneous on board
systems, cosmetic appearance,
electronics, and overall maintenance.
I use USCG regulations and
standards set by the ABYC and
NFPA as guidelines for the survey. In
addition, I check to see that all items
mentioned in a broker's listing
actually exist on board.
A haul-out of the boat is
essential, so I can check all
underwater machinery and parts.
A
sea trial is strongly recommended.
This allows me to check the engines
and other systems under normal
operating conditions. |
